Ethan's EFI Conversion Tech Day

The next tech day is tentatively scheduled for December 28th. We can do any extra work on December 29th or January 4th, if people are around.

We’re currently hoping to get Micahel and Tomas along with myself and Ethan (I’m not committing anyone, but so far we’re looking good). The loose plan is to meet at Ethan’s at, say, 9 AM, then drive the 25 minutes on I95 to my place in Sharon, MA. This will be the first time Ethan has taken his car on the highway, and we want to be sure that if anything goes wrong, we’re there to fix it or call the tow truck to bring it the rest of the way.

For more things that Ethan’s DMC needs, see this page.

But first, we need to order some parts:

Fuel Lines, Fittings, and Pressure Regulator.

Michael is going to look at ordering these parts.

These are the exact quantities I think we need. Ideally, we should order some extras. I’ve added a “+x” for those cases, like “2x+1” to say “we need two, plus one spare”. I just don’t want to find out we’re missing a key part and can’t actually do the project.

I’ve provided links to JEGS because that’s what I already had from when I did my conversion.

  • 25’ of AN6 fuel line.  I used this on my car: JEGS 555-100911

  • 2x+2 AN6 male connector for fuel line, JEGS 555-100091, $13 each

  • 6x+2 AN6 female connector for fuel line, JEGS 555-100001, $6 each

  • 2x AN6 to 14mm x 1.5 Male to fuel filter bottom, and feed hardline, JEGS 799-670520, $8 each

  • AN6 to 12mm x 1.5 Male, to fuel filter top, JEGS 799-670510, $4 each

  • 2x AN6 90-degree adaptor for fuel filter, JEGS 555-100021, $20 each

  • AN6 to AN5 union reducer, return hardline to fuel regulator return outlet, JEGS 361-991907.  Listed as discontinued, but Amazon sells a two pack for $10: https://www.jegs.com/i/Russell/799/670520/10002/-1

  • AN6 Male to 16mm x 1.5 Male, to feed hardline, JEGS 799-670530, $8 each

Except the fuel line, this comes out to about $170. I estimate the 25’ of fuel line to be in the $150 range.

Pressure Regulator

This one’s up to Micahel, if he can find something better. Amazon sells a simple regulator that looks exactly like the one Tomas has. It also includes various plugs and connectors. I can’t speak to the quality of them, so I tihnk we should still get all the fittings above anyway.

  • Fuel pressure regulator  https://amzn.to/4hPhGur, $40

  • 6AN ORB to AN6 for regulator.  Probably don’t need this if we get the Amazon kit above, since it seems to come with the plugs/connectors.

  • 6AN ORB plug to block second regulator input.  Also probably don’t need this with the Amazon kit.

Vacuum Hose

We can just get this from Amazon, but if Michael is already ordering some, that works too.

The lengths I chose are arbitrary; we don’t need much.

  • 3/16” Vacuum hose, 3’

  • 3/8” Vacuum hose, 3’

DeLorean-Specific Parts

For Ethan, we need these parts from DeLorean. The prices are about the same as from DeLoreanGo, but it’s a bit easier to provide links to DeLorean.

The first three (fuel filter, clamp and coolant tank) are required. The LED lights are optional, but recommended.

Also, if you could grab something for me while you’re there:

Optional

Air Cleaner

Ethan, this is the air cleaner that Tomas uses, which should fit under the engine cover (should you decide to get one).

Exhaust System

These are for Ethan to get from Amazon:

From JEGS

Because I can’t find any on Amazon.

From CarChemistry

Exhaust silencers.  These fit inside the exhaust pipes and interrupt the flow to reduce noise.  I have four of them in my car.  You need to order them directly from CarChemistry.  I recommend:

To give you an idea of how effective the silencers are, the 4-disc ones claim a 10 dB reduction in noise, and every 10 dB halves the noise level.  We probably shouldn’t expect it to be that extreme, but anything will still be better than what you have now.

We can also stuff them with stainless steel wool to reduce the noise further.  I only did this on two of my sliencers, not all four; we could try the same thing on your car.

Total price is about $830, not including shipping and tax.
