TM Productions

Welcome to TM Productions!

Welcome to TM Productions, the personal web site of Joe Angell, who will henceforth refer to himself in the first person. Here you'll find some of my plug-ins for Lightwave 3D, a gallery of my work, some old tutorials, and a couple of links -- so, all the usual web site stuff. Incidentally, this TM Productions has nothing to do with radio (apparently there's a company that specializes in radio with the same name).

I'm currently a senior engineer at Luxology, LLC, makers of modo, the ground-breaking 3D subdivision surface and polygon modeler and rendere. There is a very supportive online community at Luxology forums with numerous tips, tutorials and works in progress, which is also frequented by the Luxology developers. Got a question? Try posting there.

Previously, I've worked as the lead animator and an artist tools programmer Turbine Entertainment Software outside Boston, MA, on the MMORPG Asheron's Call. I joined the company as the first artist in 1994 while at the Rhode Island School of Design, back when Turbine was a few guys working out of their dorm rooms on the Brown University campus in Providence, RI. I later moved to Los Angeles to work as an animator and tools programmer at Netter Digital Entertainment on the feature film Bats, and the computer animated series Max Steel and Dan Dare, as well as a little bit of Babylon 5 Crusade and the computer animated Voltorn series. After Netter collapsed, I went to Foundation Imaging to work on the Bloody Mary cut scenes in Twisted Metal Black for the Playstation 2, and then more Dan Dare. At both companies I wrote some internal tools in the form of Lightwave plug-ins to help the animators. Unfortunately, neither company is around any longer.

During this time, I also wrote a series of my own plug-ins for Lightwave, which are available for free on this site. This lead me to being hired by NewTek to write the Lightwave 7 Spreadsheet, and my Motify plug-in was included as a standard part of the package.

In January of 2001, I was hired by Luxology, which is located in San Mateo, CA. Since then I've been telecommuted from Los Angeles, then Jay, Vermont, and now North Attleboro, Massachusetts, where I live with my girlfriend Zoe Holt.

Mu current apartment includes a garage, which gives me a place to park and repair my DeLorean (1981, VIN 767, VT license plate EIN, should anyone be curious), a big space to put my custom ten foot diameter ring-shaped computer table (although I had to scale it down a bit for the smaller space, using only the top shelf in place of the main desk), and a place to hang my customized Abby Shot-tailored Stampede Duster with my two cats, Kuro and Neko. I also maintain the DeLorean Tech Wiki, a wiki dedicated to DeLorean technical issues and solutions.

And that's about it.
